Home Grown HDTV

This page will attempt to describe ways that one can build a HDTV system. For instance, with the right video card (or a fast desktop computer) and the right monitor, one can download HDTV clips from the internet and play them. No need to wait for the consumer market and the broadcasters. It is technically possible to do this today.

For starters, one would need a HDTV capable monitor. The best kind of monitor will be able to display 1920x1080P at 60 Hz. It is true that the over the air broadcasts have a maximum encoding of 1920x1080I*. However, many encodings of movies will be at 1920x1080P at 24 FPS. The best kinds of monitor will be able to display movies and integrate computer much better.

These monitors already exist in the form of projection displays and computer monitors such as Intergraph's monitor or Sun's monitor.
